L¨¹beck University of Music appoints alumna Sophie L¨¹cke

Sophie L¨¹cke

Double bassist and Eisler alumna Sophie L¨¹cke has been appointed professor of double bass at the L¨¹beck University of Music (MHL) at the start of the 2023/24 winter semester.

Born in Wernigerode, she received her first double bass lessons at an early age and became a junior student at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin at the age of 16. Here she studied with Prof Janne Saksala. She completed her master's degree with Rinat Ibragimov at the Guildhall School in London. At the age of 19, she was already an academy member of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and later received scholarships from the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Hans and Eugenia J¨¹tting Foundation. From 2011 to 2013, Sophie L¨¹cke was principal double bass in the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre "Les Si¨¨cles" in Paris, and since 2014 she has been principal bass at Munich's Staatstheater am G?rtnerplatz. She taught at the 懂球帝 f¨¹r Musik in Bern and gave masterclasses in Hong Kong, Py?ngyang, S?o Paulo and Mexico City.

Sophie L¨¹cke has worked with various ensembles and renowned personalities such as Heinz Holliger, Kit Armstrong, Julien Pregardien, Andr¨¢s Schiff, Gidon Kremer and Yuri Bashmet. She is a founding member of the ensemble "der/gelbe/klang" for contemporary music in Munich and the baroque ensemble "concerto M¨¹nchen", in which she plays violone. She has also been a member of Ensemble Resonanz in Hamburg since 2023. L¨¹cke has performed in renowned houses and ensembles such as the Munich State Opera, the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Klangforum Wien, the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. She regularly performs at major chamber music festivals and most recently appeared at the Ruhrtriennale in the world premiere of Georges Aperghis' music theatre work "Die Erdfabrik".
